What we're doing!

The Asian Hornet as an invasive species will have a detrimental impact on not just our honey bees but a huge impact on all pollinators across the Island of Ireland. Due to this it's important for us as beekeepers to raise awareness and educate the public about:

  •  The essential role honey bees play as pollinators
  • The serious threat posed by the Yellow-Legged (Asian) Hornet
  • The importance of early reporting and vigilance

Our Chair Tony and members Grainne and Barney along with representatives from the UBKA: Valentine Hodges and Brian Grzymek had a meeting with the Derry and Strabane District Council  to discuss the Asian Hornet and the potential impact it could have.
The discussion highlighted the importance of continued co- operation on an all-island basis to develop and strengthen strategies to monitor, report and respond to sightings of the Asian Hornet.

Protecting our Honey Bees and all our native pollinators is vital! Not just for beekeepers, but for biodiversity, food production and our local environment.
Together we can help safeguard our bees and our environment.

Thank you to Council for the opportunity to highlight this important issue.
